No cost Days out!

Eyemouth and the Herring Queen apartment are ideal to enjoy a real old fashioned type holiday. Here is a list of no or very low cost things to do!

  1. Go to the beach. Take a picnic (cool boxes and picnic wear supplied) deck chairs, rounders, bucket and spades(all supplied!)
  2. Go for a walk - lovely walks around the headland across the cliffs (maps suplied)
  3. Go to the library and borrow a book or listen to the story telling sessions for children on a Wednesday afternoon.
  4. Go swimming in the excellent sea view heated leisure centre and watch the waves outside in the cold North Sea http://www.bslt.org.uk/eyemouth.html
  5. Go on a seashore safari!! Meet outside the swimming pool at 11am for a guided tour phone 01890 771443 for details
  6. Watch morris dancing for free01289 388501 for details
  7. Visit the Smokehouse gallery and view the exhibits.
  8. Go to the maritime musemn and find out about the Eyemouth fishing disaster
  9. Visit berwick by bus prehaps and view the  The Golden Age of Northumbria at Berwick Main Guard,.
  10. Visit Paxton House- there is an entry charge but its good value
  11. Go to Edinburgh for the day and wander amongst the streets viewing the sights and listening to the bagpipes and remember all musemns are FREE!
  12. Go to Cocklawburn beach and view the butterflies- sometimes there are free ranger led walks phone 01289 330591 for details
  13. Become a fisherman- help with the fishing at Paxton House 6pm on the banks on the River Tweed
  14. Stay in and play one of the board games or watch a film (large screen TV and a variety of films supplied.)
  15. Cook up a seafood feast- freshly caught seafood available at bargain prices just outside the apartment- £6 for a lobster!
  16. Have a karaoke party- PS2 with singstar supplied!
  17. Follow the Eyemouth heritage trail- maps available from the tourist office.
  18. Visit some of the lovely Borders towns like Duns, maybe pick up something good to eat at the Wednesday farmers markets
  19. Have a seafood feast. Buy fresh lobster and crab at Collins on Harbour Road for a quarter of what you would pay in the supermarket!
  20. Watch the fishing boats while sipping a lovely latte from the apartment windows.
  21. Go to Berwick and wall along the city walls for the most fantastic views all the way to Bamburgh castle!
  22. Book a cheap day return to London from Berwick railway station and see London for as little as £20
  23. Go crabbing (crab catchers supplied) you never know you may catch one big enough to eat!
  24. Collect sea shells and driftwood- put any lovely pieces on our lounge shelves and let me know in the visitors book which is yours as there will be a prize for the best piece at the end of the year.
  25. Go to East Links at Dunbar- there is an entrance fee but its not too expensive and once you have paid everything is included. Steam trains, giant flying foxes, indoor play areas, petting zoo, enourmous outdoor playareas and boucy castles, tractors, go karts etc- A great day out- take a picnic!
  26. Complete a treasure hunt. Two in the apartment one for Berwick upon tweed and one for Edinburgh. See all the important parts of each city while having (free) fun- kids love them and better for you than expensive open top bus tours! Answers included!
  27. Read a good book- there are 100s of books in the apartment - let any children in your group play with the toys supplied while you are reading- maybe the dollshouse would appeal?
  28.  Let the kids use the scooters in the apartment to scoot up and down the promenade- lots of bumps and ramps!
  29. Just sit and look out of the window at the ever changing scenes before you! Watch the fishermen unload their crabs or fish, mend the nets. See the boats going out and returning sometimes filled with fish sometimes with tourists in wetsuits.
  30. Visit the newly completed Gunsgreen House and learn about the fasinating smuggling past of Eyemouth.
